Please Read carefully the whole schedule and the description on the classes. Classes are run as per Notts Derby Rules which may differ from other shows – You Must read the schedule fully and abide by our rules and are deemed to have done this upon entering our show and classes. This WILL have altered since Last Year - Rules & Regulations may seem excessive but they are there to help the show and the competitor so are in place ultimately for your benefit, so take a few minutes to read this section, as by entering you are deemed to have read and agree to abide by these. These may seem excessive and differ from other shows but they are there to help you and us have a good & safe day
The Outdoor Shows @Longmoor Lane do Not Require you to bring Vaccination Certificates we ask you to refer to our Good Show Protocol Policies Listed Below –
Our Judges will never over touch your horses.
Never Share items at shows with persons from other yards ie buckets, bits, haynets and brushes. If your horse seems "off Colour" do not take them to ANY events. Do not make a fuss of strange horses or allow your horses to "make friends" with strange horses. Bring enough forage / Water and do not allow horses to graze on show grounds and communal areas.
Keep space between yourselves prior to classes and in working in areas, rather than standing in a group.Passports, with Vaccination records, should be carried at all times during transportation anyway, in the case of inspection. It’s just basic common sense, but all of the above are often seen at events, when the threat of infection doesn’t seem as high risk, so do your bit to protect you and yours.
By Entering or Attending You Agree that You and any Persons you are responsible for agree and abide by all the following rules and regulations set out within. Exhibitors are responsible for the correctness of their own entries. Competitors are asked to be accurate and clear when completing their entry forms, no responsibility for errors can be accepted. Entries only accepted with correct payment at the time of entry.
YOU MUST CLOSE AND OPEN THE GATE YOURSELVES ANYONE NOT DOING SO WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND NDHS EVENTS.

WALK IN ALL WALK WAYS AND CAR PARKING AREAS – WORKING IN IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FIELD , Persistent Offenders may Be Refused Entry and Asked to Leave. We do have covert staff on the field, monitoring.
LUNGING MAY HAVE TO BE RESTRICTED IN THE EVENT OF A VERY BUSY SHOW AND MUST BE IN WORKING IN AREA ONLY PERSONS FOUND NOT WALKING IN AREAS OR LUNGING IN THE CAR PARK MAY BE REQUESTED TO LEAVE THE SHOW WITH NO REFUNDS.
YOU MUST HOLD BASIC LIABILITY INSURANCE ON ALL ANIMALS BROUGHT TO THE SHOW – THIS IS ON MOST STANDARD HORSE INSURANCE POLICIES, IF NOT IT CAN BE BHS GOLD COVER OR HARRY HALL CLUB FROM £6 PER MONTH – ALL ANIMALS SHOULD HAVE SOME FORM OF THIRD PARTY INSURANCE – THIS IS FOR YOUR BENEFIT AS WELL AS EVERYONE ELSES AND REQUIRED BY THE SHOWS INSURANCE COMPANY– WE MAY REQUEST TO SEE THIS IN THE EVENT OF A ISSUE. BY ENTERING YOU AGREE TO ABIDE BY ALL RULES AND REGULATIONS – FULL LIST IN THE CABIN AND ON THE WEB PAGE.
PHOTOGRAPHY COPYRIGHT THEFT IS A CRIME – MANY PHOTOGRAPHERS ARE GIVING UP DUE TOCONSISTANT “PROOF” THEFTS AND UNAUTHORISED COPYING OF UNPAID FOR IMAGES – HELP US PROTECT OUR PHOTOGRAPHERS BY PURCHASING IMAGES AND REPORTING ANY STOLEN PROOFS – PERSISTANT OFFENDERS WILL BARRED FROM OUR EVENTS.
ONLY ANIMALS COMPETING AT THE SHOW (+ ENTERING AT LEAST 1 CLASS) CAN COME ONTO THE SHOWGROUND .
If you wish to hack for a Look around, please come for a back number and pay a nominal fee of £8, same goes for horses and ponies NOT competing – We still need your form and details In case of Emergency & BACK NUMBERS TO BE WORN AT ALL TIMES WHILST MOUNTED.
Practice Jump - ONLY COMPETITORS BOOKED IN WORKING HUNTER/ SHOW JUMPING CLASSES MAY USE THE PRACTICE JUMP.
Stallions & Colts Welcome under adequate control of a knowledgeable handler age 14 years and over. Safety is a priority and if the animal constitutes a danger to the handler or itself it will be asked to leave the class/ area. Stallion & Colts Handlers / Riders Must be over the age of 14 except ridden small breeds, which must have attained 12th Birthday
Bridle Discs - ALL STALLIONS AND COLTS OVER 2 YEARS TO WEAR A BRIDLE DISC
M & M Mountain & Moorland Classes are for Breeds Welsh ABCD or Shetland Fell, Dales, Connemara, Highlands, New Forest ,Dartmoor & Exmoor. Please Note we have classes for Part Bred ponies.
Amalgamation or Cancellation - We reserve the right to cancel or amalgamate classes with few entries, also to split large classes as deemed necessary on the day. If the Show HAS to be cancelled, due to circumstances beyond our control, any pre paid entries will be transferred to the rearranged show. Our Ground is VERY well draining – We will carry on come rain or shine, though may choose to walk/ trot only classes, and cancel or lower the jump heights any working hunter classes
Objections/ Errors on Results – These must be made in writing to the secretary within 10 min of incident with a £50 deposit for each protest. If the Protest is deemed honest, after enquiry, deposit will be returned Although The Judges decision is FINAL in all cases and anyone entering into any conflict with a judge or show official will be asked to leave show ground, where needed, escorted off by the police. Where a error is found on results after the class has been dismissed, the show reserves the right to strip any competitor of the award where necessary, where this is a class thatmarks awarded, the placing will be altered, in all other non marked classes, where a exhibit is found for whatever reason to have been illegible for the class or championship, the award and title will be stripped from them but it will NOT be re awarded to any other competitor. Results will only be published if time constraints allow.
Judges - We reserve the right to vary the panel of judges as deems necessary, Exhibitors are reminded not to show under a judge or any judge if the judge has had an interest in the exhibit, in the event of a judge change, as much notification will be given as possible. In the event of a conflict of interest in an exhibit, i.e. the animals has been owned, bred or produced by a judge or his/her member of their family, in the past or present. The competitor must withdraw from that class in this instance. THE JUDGES DECISION IS FINAL. Remember it is one Judges Decision on one day, Rudeness of any type will not be tolerated. We aim to change our judges regularly, so don’t be put off by a placing, as all judges have their own opinions
Public Liability - The Organisers DO NOT HOLD THEMSELVES RESPONSIBLE for loss or damage or injury (whether fatal or otherwise) to competitors, on lookers or spectators or their property or horse/pony in connection with any event, it shall be considered a condition of entry that each entrant shall agree to INDEMNIFY the promoters against any Legal action arising for any accident, incident or disagreement whatsoever. Exhibitors must hold their own third party insurance for animals attending the show and must be asked to produce a copy, where requested, This is Covered in MOST basic policies or BHS Gold cover is acceptable and very reasonable.
Spectators - are reminded that Horse and Ponies can be unpredictable and to take care of themselves and their children at all times. People behaving inappropriately will be advised, and if not taken notice of, will be asked to leave the venue. If you have “non horsey” persons attending the show to watch you, please ensure they are aware of potential hazards. This is NOT a Public Display Event, it is Open to Competitors, Families and Friends.
Perpetual Trophies. All perpetual trophies remain the property of the organisers of the Notts Derby Horse Show. A recipient of a perpetual trophy are required to ensure the trophy is kept secure and in good order whilst in their care. As the absolute owner, organisers of the Notts Derby Horse show can request the return of a perpetual trophy at their discretion. It is the responsibility of the recipient to return a perpetual trophy in a secure and protected manner within 14 days of this request.
Appropriate Behaviour / Social Networking & Media / Bullying/ Harassment- Any Exhibitor or member of the public who conducts themselves inappropriately to Judges, Officials, Spectators, Other competitors or to their animals will be requested to leave the show ground or venue immediately, Under Police escort if required. We Reserve the right to request any person to leave if their behaviour is not appropriate. Inappropriate behaviour at the show, or about the show, prior too or after events, will result in a permanent ban for all concerned and their immediate family, from competing at ALL Notts Derby Horse Show and associated events in the future. The Judges decision is FINAL. We will not tolerate bullying or harassment of any type from the show, In Person, or on any social networking sites, if you cannot be polite and nice, we ask you not to come.
Riding Hats – All Handlers under 16 years MUST wear Current standard riding hat in ALL In Hand Classes, ALL riders are to wear Current standard Hats. Those over 18 Years that choose to wear a Beagler / Bowler/ Stetson or Top Hat in FLAT classes or Concours, may do so but must have obtained a Disclaimer Pass (only needed once per year), Understanding that we have advised them we would prefer them to wear a strapped hat, but as a adult accept they risks to themselves by not wearing one. Judges are instructed to disregard headwear type anyhow in any judge decision on placings in classes.
Body Protectors / Air Jackets May Be worn IN ANY CLASS without being penalised.
Rubbish & Waste - Please take your rubbish home with you and do not muck out horse transport onto the field/venue, The more rubbish you take home, the less our waste disposal costs are.
Spurs & Whips & Rider Size & Excessive Working In - No persons under 18 yrs to wear spurs. Spurs may not be worn in Pony, M & M or Veteran Classes. Note Overuse or Misuse of Whips or canes will result in removal from classes. We will if we feel an animals welfare is jeopardised, step in and ask you to leave. Please ensure you are a suitable size for the type of pony or horse you are riding, Non M & M Children’s ponies should not be ridden by adults, Excessive working, Tying in of Horses and will not be tolerated, and will be monitored. SPURS MAY NOT BE WORN IN NOVICE RIDDEN CLASSES.
Bridle / First Ridden/ Novice Bitting Arrangements/Bitless - Lead Rein competitors/ ponies must have a snaffle bit (including wilkie types) & lead be attached to noseband at all times & Not be Exceeding 12.2hh, REINS MUST NOT BE KNOTTED SHORT, Neck Straps or Saddle Straps are Permitted, First Ridden Ponies can be ridden in any suitable bit/ bridle, we place no restrictions on any other classes EXCEPT Novice Classes where snaffles are to be worn, as to the type of bridle that may be used though Judges will be instructed to take note of the bridle/ bits effectiveness. You will not be penalised for wearing a snaffle in an open class. – Please note these are our show rules and not those of other shows, so do check eligibility to wear any bridle at any events that you may qualify for – Ponies welfare will be taken into consideration, and any misuse of a bit, will result in elimination from that class.
Bitless Exhibits will be allowed in all classes. As with all bridles, attention will be paid to the effectiveness.
Payments / Refunds All classes to be paid for prior to entry & No Refunds or Credit Given, this includes clashing or missed classes or classes entered in error, we will if possible swap you to another suitable class or offer a voucher for the following show at the secretaries discretion. Cash / pay pal or credit / debit card/ Bank Transfer payments only . Cheques Not Accepted. We will refund fees if we cancel the classes. We do reserve the right to refund you at our discretion, if a genuine problem arises (Lost Shoe and no farrier on site/ available)
Clashing / Missed Classes - We will try and run classes on time but cannot be held responsible for clashing or missed classes. We Advise competitors to watch for classes and we will advise of any delays & ring Changes over the speaker system, but will not necessarily call for individuals or each class, Please watch your rings and advise Stewards of any problem. Competitors are responsible for getting themselves to the correct rings on time. No Class will start before its sections allotted not before start time, though rings may vary. If you miss your class through not being ready ON TIME, then we will not swap your classes.
WE ARE UNABLE TO TELL YOU AS WE TAKE ON THE DAY ENTRIES HOW MANY ARE IN EACH CLASS, PLEASE DO NOT, COME AND ASK AT BUSY TIMES, AS THE STAFF WILL BE BUSY ENSURING THAT ALL ENTRIES ARE BOOKED IN CORRECTLY. Check the Board at the truck from Mid Morning
Horse Ages Horse/Ponies/ Foals are aged as of the 1st of January in the current year, a foal is born 2023, a yearling will be an animal born in 2022, 2 YO 2021, 3 year old 2020x Where an issue arises a passport or Vets certificate may be requested. 2023 Foals Must be at least 3 weeks of age and ONLY be shown with their Dams until the later in the year shows where they may be shown weaned in suitable classes. PLEASE ASK IF YOU ARE UNSURE ALL HORSES BIRTHDAYS ARE JANUARY 1ST REGARDLESS OF IF THEY WERE BORN ACTUALLY LATER IN THE YEAR.
Rider Ages & Lead Rein / First Ridden Ponies Riders ages will be taken as they were on the 1st Jan of the current year, for all classes, if a child is now 10 but was 9 on 1st January 2023 they are for the purpose of this show and any classes, 9 years old. Lead Rein 9 Years & 12.2hh Max, FR 12 Years and 13.2hh – Please note These are NOT the Normal Ages for ALL Shows, so if you do qualify for any other shows you need to check the eligibility of the age limits
NOTE LEAD REIN SHOW JUMPING DRESSAGE & WORKING HUNTER ONLY WE WILL ALLOW UPTO 13.2HH AND 10YRS FOR THESE CLASSES ONLY.
Dogs to be kept on leads and cleaned up after. Anyone found to let a dog foul and not clear it up will be banned from future events, Dog faeces is a hazard to children and highly unpleasant. Any bagged dog waste must be removed from the field (there is a designated poo bin across the road near the motorway bridge)
Ridden Horse Age No equine under the age of 4 years to compete in any ridden class or be ridden at the venue (as of Jan 1st in current year) where an issue arises a passport or Vets certificate may be requested.
Leaders For Lead Rein exhibits- Must be 14 yrs or older .
Young Handlers ( + All entrants 16 & Under in All Classes) Must wear a British Current Standard Riding hat. NO STALLION or ANIMALS UNDER 4yrs In Young Handler Classes If ANY animal in a young handler class constitutes a danger to its handler or other competitors, it will be requested to leave the class.
Parking - Please Park where you are asked to by the attendants, Verbal Abuse or confrontation with any attendant, volunteer or member of NDHS Staff is taken very seriously and you will be banned from all future events.
Admittance to Classes - Once a Class is In Progress and the Gate is Closed, No Other Entrants will be let in without the Judges express permission. The judge may decline to admit late exhibits, AT NDHS you may leave to go to another class if clashing occurs, it is at the discretion of the Judges for you to come back in. You may need to prioritize which classes you enter in the event of clashing
Entry Rejection & Any other issue – The Show Secretary reserves the absolute right to reject ANY entry and will not enter into any correspondence regarding the rejection. Where a problem occurs and is not covered in the rules please consult the show secretary who will make the final decision.
Welfare & Transportation – Please Ensure Animals are transported in Safe suitable vehicles, that are suitably partitioned and divided for the Amount Travelling
Have a Nice Day -please enter into the spirit of this by making it a pleasant nice day for all concerned. The organisers have taken a lot of time and effort to make this day a success so enjoy it, have a go at something new, Please note no unpleasantness of any description will be Tolerated.
Some Shows will Have Extra Class Affiliations and Qualification Cards, a print out leaflet detailing the relevant information of these will be available separate to this schedule.
